Paper Moon in July 2013

Hello!  We hope you’re having a great summer…  we’ve been working on a CD of Argentine Tangos as well as an album of original tunes.  This month we have 2 shows that are open to the public.  On Saturday, July 13, 2013 we’ll be at Westfield Mission Valley mall from 2 to 4pm.  And on Sunday, July 21, 2013 we’ll be at the very nice La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla from 6 to 9pm overlooking the ocean.  This will be our first time at La Valencia, so perhaps it will become a regular thing, come out and see us!

Tango!

Thanks to everyone who came out to see us in April at our concert in La Jolla. We spent the following day in the studio recording all the Argentine tangos we could for a possible new album. The video is a little fuzzy, but here’s the famous “La Cumparsita” with more videos on the way:

Percussionist Mark Lamson joins us this Saturday

We’re busy rehearsing for our show in La Jolla this Saturday, it should be a great time! Thanks to Chris Bott for putting it all together. Joining us on percussion for the concert is the great Mark Lamson of the local group “Sol e Mar”…. he’s a virtual encyclopedia of Latin American rhythms, and together we’ll play Brazilian choros, waltzes, and a whole lot of Argentine tango! You can buy tickets here or call us at 619-341-0552. Tickets are $12

Latin American guitar concert in La Jolla April 20th, 2013

On Saturday April 20th at 6:30pm we will be performing a concert in La Jolla, California featuring guitar music from Latin America, including a little Spanish music. Music in Latin America is of course influenced by Spanish music, but African and native Latin American cultures contributed a huge part to what are now legitimately distinct styles of music – we’ll be presenting our own arrangements of pieces from many of these styles, from Brazilian choro, Venezuelan waltzes, Cuban habanera (the precursor to tango), and an entire set of Argentine tangos! Also, we will perform 2 songs, written by each of us, which are original compositions inspired by some of these styles. We hope to have a special guest too!

The concert will be hosted by the Congregational Church of La Jolla, located at 1216 Cave Street in La Jolla. Tickets are $12 for adults, and $10 for seniors and military. You can purchase tickets directly from the church’s homepage (look at the right side of the page). Or call us at 619-341-0552 if you have any questions or want to buy tickets directly from us. We hope to see you there!!

February 2013 in Paper Moon land

Thanks for visiting our new blog! We’ve been approved to play a concert at Congregational Church of La Jolla on April 20th, 2013 at 6:30pm… we will be presenting an assortment of Spanish, Cuban, and South American music with an entire set of Argentine tangos – a selection of songs we are recording a CD for. We hope to have the album ready by then. Stay tuned for more details..

In the meantime, we’re still performing at private events around San Diego. Last month, we sat in with the great local guitarist Dusty Brough at La Gran Tapa in downtown San Diego. Here we are playing a tune from the Brazilian mandolin composer Jacob do Bandolim called “Santa Morena”:
