We stayed busy this Summer, playing a lot of weddings and our new weekly gig at Café 21 downtown. We’ve been adding some new material to our set, like Baden Powell’s “Berimbau” and “Chan Chan” from Buena Vista Social Club, as well as some new original tunes (and some old ones we’d forgotten about). Last Saturday we played once again at the Mission San Juan Capistrano with percussionist Steve Haney and bassist Sam Johnson for a private event. It’s an awesome setting for a gig, and super fun to play as a quartet! Sam grabbed a photo:
We’re in the process of finishing up our album of classic Argentine tangos. We enlisted bassist Sam Johnson to play on the CD, and we’ll being mixing this week. We plan on having a CD release party in San Diego this Fall, so stay tuned!
We’re getting ready for our concert June 1 with accordionist Lou Fanucchi. It should be a fun show, Lou will play some solo pieces, then we’ll join him to play as a trio, then we’ll play the opposite way after the intermission. Here’s the concert program:
Solo accordion by Lou Fanucchi:
Sens Unique – Astor Piazolla
Made for Wesley – Jimmy Rosenberg
Waltz for Nicky – Richard Galliano
Valde d’Amelie / La Vie en Rose – Yann Tiersen / Édith Piaf
We have rescheduled our concert of French music with accordionist Lou Fanucchi for June 1st, 2014 at 6:30pm at the Congregational Church of La Jolla. We’ll be playing all kinds of French music from gypsy jazz to classical pieces from French composers to music from French cinema. Go to the CCOLJ website for tickets (look for the “Gypsies in Paris” buy button), we’ll see you there!
Hello! We hope you’re having a great summer… we’ve been working on a CD of Argentine Tangos as well as an album of original tunes. This month we have 2 shows that are open to the public. On Saturday, July 13, 2013 we’ll be at Westfield Mission Valley mall from 2 to 4pm. And on Sunday, July 21, 2013 we’ll be at the very nice La Valencia Hotel in La Jolla from 6 to 9pm overlooking the ocean. This will be our first time at La Valencia, so perhaps it will become a regular thing, come out and see us!
Thanks to everyone who came out to see us in April at our concert in La Jolla. We spent the following day in the studio recording all the Argentine tangos we could for a possible new album. The video is a little fuzzy, but here’s the famous “La Cumparsita” with more videos on the way:
